Tip of the week: securing sensitive customer attachments

Verifying your customer’s identity through a passport or driver license scan can be an effective verification method. Yet due to the sensitive nature of these documents, and their ability to be used for identity theft, we recommend enabling the Private Attachments feature of Zendesk. While regular attachments are secured using a token, a URL that is considerably complex and random, attachments could potentially be exposed through a misdirected email. The Private Attachments feature requires your user to sign in to view the attachment. You can certainly use Zendesk without Private Attachments, but be mindful of what you ask your customers to send, to lower the risk of accidental exposure.
